Germany beat Australia 4-3 to reach the FIH (International Hockey Federation) men’s World Cup final on Friday. Star drag-flicker Gonzalo Pilat scored a hat-trick in the second half. Pilat scored goals through penalty corners in the 43rd, 52nd and 59th minutes. Australia lead 2-0 at the break. Jeremy Hayward (12th minute), Nathan Ephraims (27th minute) and Blake Gowers (58th minute) scored for the team.
Australia will play the bronze medal match on Sunday. Germany won the second match in a row. After losing 0–2 to England in the quarter-final match, the team scored two goals in the last three minutes to equalize and then beat England in a penalty shootout to reach the semi-finals.
Two-time champions Germany reached the final for the first time since the 2010 season. After that, the team lost the chance to complete the title hat-trick. The team was champion in 2002, 2006 and also won the silver medal in 1982.
