Before Mohammad Siraj, these five Indian bowlers held the No. 1 crown. However, there is no doubt that the first name is sure to surprise. Mohammad Siraj is the third Indian fast bowler to be ranked number one in the ICC ODI Rankings and the 6th bowler internationally. Before him, Kapil Dev to Jasprit Bumrah have registered their names in this list.

Indian fast bowler Mohammad Siraj on Wednesday claimed the top spot in the ICC ODI Rankings based on his impressive performance. Siraj has been bowling brilliantly in the 50 over format for the last one year. He continued his form against New Zealand as well. Looking at Siraj’s ODI career, he has taken 38 wickets in 21 matches so far with an economy of 4.62 and an impressive strike rate of 20.76. With this, the Hyderabad bowler became the third fast bowler from India and the sixth bowler overall in the ICC ODI rankings. Before Siraj, everyone from Kapil Dev to Jasprit Bumrah entered the list.

Before Jasprit Bumrah-Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah topped the ICC ODI rankings twice. He achieved this feat in 2018 and 2022. The last time he was a No. 1 bowler was after the series against England last year when he took career-best figures of 6/19. Bumrah has taken 121 wickets in 72 ODIs played so far. But he was left out of the team due to injury.

Ravindra Jadeja- In 2013, he was the number 1 left-arm off-spinner bowler. That year Jadeja dismissed a total of 52 batsmen with his spin bowling. India won the last ICC title in the form of the Champions Trophy in 2013. Jadeja played a vital role in winning this title. He became the highest wicket taker in the tournament with 12 wickets.

Anil Kumble – India’s most successful bowler Anil Kumble achieved this position in 1996. Kumble became the world’s number 1 bowler in December 1996 due to his brilliant bowling. He mesmerized everyone with his bowling performances. He took 61 wickets at an amazing average of 20.24. Anil Kumble holds the record for most ODI wickets for India. He played 271 matches and took 337 wickets in his career.

Kapil Dev – Also named after India’s World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev. At a time when India did not have fast bowlers, Kapil Dev was crowned No.1 in the ICC rankings and inspired the rest of the players. In 1988 he topped the rankings with 21 ODI wickets at an average of 22.14.

Maninder Singh – Maninder Singh was the first bowler from India to hold the number one position in the ICC ODI rankings for bowlers, he created this history in 1987. When fast bowlers ruled the world, Maninder Singh took 30 wickets at an average of 28.47 based on his spin. His ODI career did not last long. Maninder Singh took 66 wickets in 59 ODIs.
