Indian girls are back again. Shefali Verma led Indian team after losing to Australia in Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa. Team India narrowly beat Sri Lanka in their second match of the Super-Six round on Sunday (January 22). 16-year-old leg-spinner Parsavi Chopra’s (5/4) spin magic and Soumya Tiwari’s lightning batting helped India beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets. Thus keeping the semi-final hopes alive in the prestigious T20 World Cup. A day before this match in Potchefstroom, Team India suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Australia. In this first match of the Super Six, the Indian team was bowled out for just 87 runs by the Australian bowlers. But recovered from this terrible defeat within 24 hours and showed complete dominance over Sri Lanka.
Leg spinner caught in the trap..
India won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Indian bowlers proved that captain Shefali Verma’s decision was correct. Although the Indian team could not bowl out Sri Lanka, they bowled hard. With this, the Lankan girls faced many difficulties to run. In particular, 16-year-old leg-spinner Parsavi Chopra (5/4) suffocated the Lankans with her spin magic. Only Vishmi Gunaratne (25) excelled as Sri Lanka scored 59 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. After that, even though the target was small, Team India played aggressively from the beginning to make up for the net run rate loss due to the defeat against Australia. But captain Shefali Verma (15), Shweta Sehrawat (13) and Richa Ghosh (4) were dismissed quickly. But a 17-year-old girl from Bhopal, Soumya Tiwari, rained fours. An unbeaten 28 off just 15 balls took the team to the target in 7.2 overs i.e. 44 balls.
Parshavi Chopra claimed a magnificent 4️⃣-wicket haul and bagged the Player of the Match award as #TeamIndia completed a crucial 7-wicket win over Sri Lanka with more than 12 overs to spare 👏👏
