The Indian team suffered its first defeat in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa. The Shefali Verma-led Indian team entered the Super-Six after winning three matches in the group stage. After being invited to bat early in Saturday's match in Potchefstroom, India's batting failed miserably.  Captain Shefali (8) and wicket keeper Richa Ghosh (7), who have experience in senior cricket, failed completely and the team was bowled out for 87 runs in 18.5 overs.

In the first three matches of the tournament, India scored big and Shweta Sehrawat played a key role in that.  This time too, Shweta became India's top scorer with 21 runs.

Team India's net run rate (+1.905) has suffered a lot with this defeat.  With this, the chances of the semis have become complicated.  India will face Sri Lanka in their next match on Sunday (January 22).
