The All India Women’s Selection Committee on Sunday announced the Indian squad for the upcoming T20I series against the New Zealand Under-19 Women’s team. Shweta Sehrawat has been selected as the captain of the 15-member Indian team. It is remarkable that two girls got a place in this team announced by the selection committee. Gongadi Trisha from Bhadradri Kota Gudem district of Telangana and MD Shabnam from Visakhapatnam secured a place in the Indian team. As part of this home series, the Indian Under-19 Women’s team will play five T20 matches against the Kiwis. All the matches will be held in Mumbai. The series will begin with the first T20 match to be held on November 27. Trisha, who played for the under-16 cricket team at the age of eight, got an opportunity to represent the domestic under-19 cricket team in another four years. Also, she got a place in the Hyderabad women’s cricket team at the age of 12 and won the BCCI ‘Player of the Year’ award at a young age.
Trisha showed her strength on behalf of Under-19 and Senior India Blue organized by BCCI. Similarly, the Under-19 Women’s ODI Challenger Trophy-2021 held in Jaipur also impressed with an all-round performance. It is noteworthy that she holds the record as the bowler who bowled the most dot balls as a legspinner.
