Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag believes that if the same team comes and plays with a similar approach in the next T20 World Cup, the same result will be repeated. Sehwag asked BCC to make some key changes in the squad for the upcoming World Cup. However, he did not specifically mention anyone’s name here. But.. it is clear that he is talking about giving a chance to the youth in the next World Cup instead of some senior players.
Sehwag told Cricbuzz, ‘I don’t talk about mindset, other things. But I definitely want some changes in this team. I don’t want to see some faces at the next World Cup. In 2007 T20 World Cup, we saw experienced players not going to that World Cup. Some of the young people went in unexpected ways. He said that he wants to select a similar team for the next World Cup as well.
I don’t want to see their faces..
Sehwag said, ‘I don’t want to see seniors who can’t perform this time in the next World Cup. I hope the selectors will take the same decision. But the question is, will these selectors last until the next World Cup? Then a new selection panel, new management, new policy, will change? It should be seen. But one thing is clear. He warned that if the same team goes with the same policy in the next World Cup, the result will be the same.
In this T20 World Cup, captain Rohit Sharma could not show his ability in any way. Dinesh Karthik also flopped completely. Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami’s performances were also average. KL Rahul could only score runs against smaller teams. Among the senior players, Virat Kohli and Bhuvneshwar Kumar performed well.
