PAK vs ENG: Rain threat for the final match.. No chance of reserve-day.. Which team will be the winner?

Pakistan Vs England Final T

The T20 World Cup final match between Pakistan vs England will be held in Melbourne on Sunday, November 13. But there is a threat of rain for this match. According to the Australian weather forecast, Melbourne has a 100% chance of rain on Sunday and a 95% chance of rain on Reserve Day Monday. The wind speed may also exceed 35 km per hour. In the background of rain on the final day, ICC also kept a reserve day. In such a situation, if rain creates problems on Sunday, November 13, the match may be played on November 14. But the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Melbourne on November 14 as well. In such a situation, the sports fans are curious about how the final match of the T20 World Cup will end.

In such a situation, ICC issued new conditions on Saturday. Reserve-day reduced extra playing time from 2 to 4 hours. However, if the rain forecast turns out to be correct in two days, the final will be called off. If this happens, England-Pakistan will have to share the trophy. In other words, Pakistan and England will be declared joint winners.

T20 World Cup will not leave the rain..

The reason for the heavy rain in T20 World Cup is ‘La Nina’ typhoon. The Bureau of Meteorology has said that there is more rain in Australia due to the ‘La Nina’ effect. This is likely to result in above average rainfall this year.

According to the Meteorological Department, this is happening due to the decrease in sea surface temperatures around the equatorial region in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. This year the effect of change in weather cycle has started to be felt here.

In this World Cup, 3 matches of the Super 12 stage were canceled due to rain in Melbourne. They are New Zealand vs Afghanistan, Afghanistan vs Ireland, Australia vs England matches. The match between England vs Ireland was also affected by rain. But here Ireland won because of Duckworth Lewis.

What will happen if the final is not held on Sunday?

It has been decided that both the teams will play at least 5 overs in each match in the group stage. Both teams have to play at least 10 overs each in the knockout.

But what now..

  1. Instead of 20 overs per head, only 10 overs per head should be completed on Sunday i.e. the final day itself as a first attempt.
  2. If the match starts on a Sunday and is not completed, the next day (Monday Reserve Day) will resume from where the previous day’s play left off. That means the match is considered ‘live’ only after the toss. That means toss is mandatory.
  3. If the match does not start on Sunday even after the reduction of overs, it is a condition that a full match will be played on the next day (reserve day Monday). There is also a provision that an extra 30 minutes can be given if the match is to be completed on the original match day i.e. Sunday.
  4. If the match starts on time and stops midway on the reserve day, an additional 2 hours may be given.
  5. In case the match is not completed the trophy will be shared between the two teams.
  6. This is what happened to India and Sri Lanka in the 2002-2003 Champions Trophy. In the 2019 ODI World Cup, the India vs New Zealand semi-final went like this on Day 2.
