After this, the scene changed as the team got a new captain in the form of Rohit Sharma. The Indian team will play the semi-final against the England team on November 10. Rohit Sharma’s team, which came into the ring with many expectations, started the tournament with a great victory against Pakistan in the first match. Thus, with a total of 5 matches, 4 wins and 1 loss, they reached the top position in Group 2 and reached the semi-final.
Top 4 stars who took India to semi-final
4. Mohammad Shami..(5 matches, 6 wickets, economy rate 6.11, best 2/14)
Although Shami did not take many wickets in the T20 World Cup, he stopped the batsmen from getting runs in all the overs. In this tournament, whenever the Indian captain needed a wicket, he knocked down the opponent’s wicket. In such a situation, his overs become decisive in the match. Especially in the India-Pakistan match, Shami Iftikhar Ahmed took the wicket when the team needed it the most. After this wicket, the game came to the Indian court. Shami’s consistency has benefited India a lot in this T20 World Cup.
3. Suryakumar Yadav- (5 matches, 225 runs, strike rate 193)
Suryakumar Yadav’s three half-centuries and 360-degree shots were the talk of the town in the T20 World Cup, but he also played a vital role in India’s victory. In the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh matches, Surya’s bat did not work much, but he scored 68 runs in 40 balls against South Africa. Surya remained unbeaten against Zimbabwe and Netherlands. He scored 51 off 25 balls against Netherlands and 61 off 25 balls against Zimbabwe. Suriya’s two sixes in the last over against Zimbabwe suggest that Suriya can become a 360-degree batsman after South African AB de Villiers. But these shots hit by Surya made India reach the semifinals.
2. Arshdeep Singh – (5 matches, 10 wickets, economy rate 7.83, best 3/32)
India-Pakistan teams faced each other in a Super-4 match in the Asia Cup. Ravi Bishnoi bowled the third ball of the 18th over full off side. Asif Ali is on strike. Asif tries to play a slog sweep. But, hit the top edge and the ball went to short third man. The ball slipped from the hands of the fielder Arshdeep who was standing there. After dropping this catch, Arshdeep was responsible for India’s loss in this match. Arshdeep got trolled. Words like Khalistani were also used against him.
Arshdeep answered this with his performance in T20. Arshdeep came to bowl the second over in the ongoing Super-12 match between India and Pakistan. Pakistan opener Babar Azam was dismissed by Arshdeep on the first ball of that over. After that he also sent Mohammad Rizwan and Asif Ali to the pavilion. He gave 32 runs in 4 overs and took 3 wickets. India won this match.
Arshdeep’s brilliant performance continued in the match against Netherlands. He gave 2 wickets to the team. Although Team India lost their next match against South Africa, here too Arshdeep dismissed the two most important batsmen of the opposition, Quinton de Kock and Riley Russo.
In the next match, the tight competition between Bangladesh and India continued. Here too Arshdeep did wonders and took 2 wickets. He took the crucial wicket of Shakib-al-Hasan. After that the Bangladesh team headed towards defeat.
Babar Azam in powerplay in India-Pakistan match and Shakib-Al-Hasan in death over in India-Bangladesh match. With this, Arshadeep proved to be a good option for India in both powerplay and death overs. Ahead of this World Cup, the absence of Jasprit Bumrah from India’s bowling line-up was hotly debated. Arshdeep made up for Bumrah’s deficit with this performance.
1. Virat Kohli- (5 matches, 246 runs, strike rate 138)
Before the T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli had been struggling with poor form for nearly 3 years. He scored a century against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup. After that everything changed. Virat remained unbeaten with 82 runs off 53 balls against Pakistan in the Super-12 first match of the T20 World Cup.
In the 19th over, Kohli turned the match around with two sixes off Haris Raoof. Fifth ball of the over.. Harris Raouf bowled slow short of length. Kohli takes the ball over the bowler’s head outside the boundary. Raoof kept watching the ball. Team India got 6 runs. The next ball is on leg-stump. Kohli flicks it towards fine leg with the help of his wrist. Six runs again. This innings played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground is being called as Kohli’s best innings in the T20 format.
In the match between India and Netherlands, Virat silenced the critics by playing an unbeaten innings with 62 runs off 44 balls. Kohli remained unbeaten on 64 runs off 44 balls against Bangladesh and kept the team in a strong position.
