In every T20 match with rain, the result of the match is decided only if at least 10 overs are played. But to get the result in the T20 World Cup semi-final, at least 20 overs have to be played.
T20 World Cup Semi Finals
The T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final matches will be held on November 9 and 10. However, the ICC has changed the rules for the match if it rains. Although ICC has not given any official information on this, according to media reports, ICC has decided that there should be at least 20 overs in the semi-final and final match, only then the result of the match will be known. If the 20 overs are not played due to rain, the team that finished first in their group will qualify for the final. Usually a T20 match consists of 40 overs. In case of rain, at least five overs are to be played in the innings. Only then will the result of the match be decided. If five overs cannot be played in an innings due to rain, the match will be abandoned. In the ICC T20 World Cup, till now, the matches were held under this rule, and with this rule, the Ireland team defeated England.
But before the semi-final and final matches, the ICC rules are different. At least 10 overs must be played in an innings to get the results of the two semi-final matches. If 10 overs of the innings are not played due to rain on the scheduled date of the match, the match will be stopped there and the match will start from there on the next day. The same happened in the semi-final match between India and New Zealand in 2019. The rest of the overs were played later. The result of the match will be announced after at least 20 overs have been played.
If the next day’s play is not played due to rain or if there are 10 overs in the innings, the match will be abandoned. At the Super-12 stage, the team that tops their group will advance to the final. A match will be played under 20 overs only if a team is bowled out before the completion of 10 overs in a semi-final match.
Rules for the final?
In order to get a result even in the final match, at least 10 overs have to be played in the innings. Otherwise, the remaining overs are played the next day. Even then, if 20 overs are not played, both the teams will be declared joint winners. But if the match is tied there will be no joint winners. In this background, the super overs will continue till the result of the match is decided.
