India faced some tense moments before securing a last-ball victory over Bangladesh and entering the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. India registered their third win in four matches in Adelaide on Wednesday as they beat Bangladesh by 5 runs to top Group 2. We didn’t want this match to be so close,” said Virat Kohli while receiving the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten half-century.
The Indian bowlers who were relieved in the power play..
Experienced Bengal batsman Liton Das effectively thwarted the onslaught of the Indian bowlers and struck in the powerplay. He played innovative shots around the ground keeping the Indian seamers in mind. By the end of the Powerplay with his dominance, Bangladesh scored 60 runs without losing a wicket. It is noteworthy that Das scored 56 runs.
Bangladesh scored 66 runs for no loss in the 7th over when play was stopped due to rain. India was desperate to send Das back. But the bowlers showed their weaknesses once again. It seems that playing semis with these weaknesses is very difficult.
The match changed with KL Rahul’s lightning fielding..
Play resumed after a rain break with a reduced target under DLS mode. Bangladeshi fans were shocked. Santo plays a ball towards mid-wicket off the bowling of Ravi Ashwin. Two batters tried for two runs. However, KL Rahul picked up the ball and threw it quickly. This brilliant throw knocks down the stumps. Das scored 60 runs off 27 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes.
“That fielding by KL Rahul changed the match. He came charging after the rain and knocked down the stumps with a brilliant throw. This is what changed the course of the match,” said K Srikanth. Ravi Shastri also agreed that Das’ runout was the turning point.
The Indian fielders made up for their poor catching in the previous match. They took every opportunity that came their way. Suryakumar Yadav took two tough catches as India beat Bangladesh.
Arshadeep Hawa in death overs..
Arshdeep Singh’s good bowling also helped the team. The young left-hander shouldered the responsibility of bowling the last over. Not disappointed. After the match, captain Rohit Sharma said why the team management had faith in Jasprit Bumrah in his absence. He praised the young bowler. “It was not an easy task, but he did it very well,” said Rohit.
Good pace bowling can put any team under pressure. But, sometimes it goes wrong with India. Taskin Ahmed bowled in the right areas with good pace. He has been instrumental in collapsing the top order many times. His absence between the wickets was unfortunate for Bengal as other bowlers paved the way for wickets.
To become a world champion, one has to dominate the opponent’s batting. But, we have not seen from the Indian team so far in the tournament.
One could argue that 184 in Adelaide was a good score. But the Indian team can score more if they make more use of the short square boundary. In fact, due to another fifty by Kohli, India managed to reach 184 runs. KL Rahul also scored a half century with a wonderful innings. Also Suryakumar Yadav impressed with the storm hitting. This score looked very low when such huge batsmen were in the top order.
With a strong batting line-up, huge scores should come..
The score predictor showed 180 at the end of 5 overs. But, the Indian team could not go beyond it. Dinesh Karthik is in the team as a finisher. But, he failed to perform well. This weakness could hurt India as the tournament moves towards the final stages and faces more prepared teams.
The Indian team did not feel that the match against Bangladesh was played in the knockout stage. If he had played more carefully the result would have been huge. When playing in the semis, we have to push harder. Don’t miss opportunities. Otherwise negative situations will occur.
