England Afghanistan Match

Super-12 round matches in the World Cup started from Saturday. In the first match of Group-1, New Zealand defeated Australia by 89 runs. After that, a match was held between England and Afghanistan from this group. In this match which was held at Optus Stadium in Perth, the bowlers of both the teams showed their ability. The batsmen had to work hard to score runs. In a thrilling match till the end, England won by 5 wickets against Afghanistan. Left-arm medium pacer Sam Curran, who returned to the England team last month after a long injury layoff, broke the record. The Afghan batsmen could not stand before his spell. He played a vital role in the team’s victory by taking 5 wickets and giving only 10 runs in 3.4 overs. The team collapsed for 112 runs in 19.4 overs to Karan Dhati. Ibrahim Zadran (32) and Usman Ghani (30) scored the most runs for Afghanistan.

With a small target of 112 runs, England looked set to win comfortably. However, this did not happen. In the beginning, Afghanistan’s pacers kept their reins. After that the spin trio of Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman attacked and the England batsmen struggled for runs. Captain Buttler reached the pavilion just before the end of the Powerplay. Alex Hales and Ben Stokes also failed. David Malan stayed at the crease for a long time but a brilliant catch by Mohammad Nabi ended his game. In such a situation, Liam Livingston held one end and slowly led the team to the goal. England had to wait till the 19th over to chase down the target of 113 runs.

On the other hand, Australia got a big shock in the Super-12 first match of the T20 World Cup. In the first match itself, New Zealand was badly defeated. The Australian team, which entered the ring with a target of 201 runs, was bowled out for 111 runs in just 17.1 overs. With this, the New Zealand team won by 89 runs.
