Namibia vs United Arab Emirates: With Namibia’s defeat, the top two teams from Group A to Super 12 joined Group 1 and Group 2.
Namibia’s dream of doing miracles for the second time in a row in the T20 World Cup has been shattered. In the last group match of Round 1, the UAE team defeated Namibia by 9 runs. With this, the chances of joining the Super-12 will be increased and they will go home. With this, Sri Lanka and Netherlands got a place in Super-12. Namibia’s defeat also brought good news for India. Because the Sri Lankan team, which showed points to Team India in the Asia Cup and went home in the league, did not join Group 2. Instead of Lankan team, Netherlands team joined India in Group-2 in Super-12.
Group A matches were held in Geelong on Thursday, October 20. In this, the Sri Lankan team defeated the Netherlands and secured their place in the Super-12. But all eyes were on India-Pakistan group or Australia-England. For this, everyone was waiting for the match between Namibia and UAE. A win here will see Namibia top the group. But a loss here has relegated the Netherlands to the second spot in the Super-12.
UAE won the toss and elected to bat first. In front of Namibia’s best bowling, UAE started their game very slowly. It ultimately affected the team’s score. Opener Muhammad Wasim scored the highest 50 runs. But his innings was slow. In the last over, captain Rizwan scored 43 runs off 29 balls and Basil Hameed scored 25 runs off 14 balls to take the team to 148 runs.
In response, Namibia started their innings very badly. The entire top and middle order, including captain Gerhard Erasmus, failed miserably. Namibia lost 7 wickets for just 69 runs till the 13th over. From here, Namibia’s defeat seemed certain. But, David Visa used his experience to give the team hope of victory. This dashing batsman scored 55 runs in just 36 balls. Only 14 runs were needed in the last over. However, Visa got out at a crucial time. In the end, UAE won as Namibia were bowled out for 139 runs. With this, these two teams went home from the qualifiers.
