World Wrestling Championship: Veteran wrestler Bajrang Punia won the bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championship. He won this match in a repechage. This is Bajrang’s 5th medal. Earlier, Bajrang won one silver and three bronze medals. Bajrang became the first Indian to win so many medals in the World Championship. The competitions were held in Belgrade. This is India’s second medal in this championship. Vinesh Phogat bagged the bronze. With this, India ended its campaign in the World Championship with two medals.
Bajrang made a brilliant comeback in the bronze medal match. The 28-year-old Indian wrestler made a spectacular comeback in the 65 kg competition. Earlier, he trailed Puerto Rican Sebastian Rivera 6–0. He then made a strong comeback to win 11-9.

Bajrang Punia lost his quarter final match to American Yianni Diacomihalis. His opponent won on the basis of technical superiority. Bajrang won the match by reaching the bronze medal through repechage.
A repechage gives a wrestler who lost in the preliminary round another chance. He was a wrestler who lost in the opening round. After that he reached the finals. Simply put, finalist wrestlers who lose in the preliminary round have a chance to win bronze from the repechage round.
