International Grandmaster Chess Tournament: Today is a very special day not only for Chhattisgarh but for all of India. More than 500 players from 15 countries including India and Russia will participate in the International Grandmasters Chess Tournament starting from 19 September 2022 i.e. today in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

The organizers said on Saturday that the tournament is being organized under the joint auspices of Chhattisgarh Government Sports and Youth Welfare Department, All India Chess Federation and Chhattisgarh Olympic Association. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister trophy and cash prize will be given to the winning players.

It is a special occasion for us to hold this level of competition here for the first time. Organizers informed that more than 500 players from 15 countries will present their challenge under the guidance of more than 100 experienced masters in this tournament which will be held from September 19 to September 28. So far, participating athletes from 15 countries including Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, USA, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Poland, Vietnam, Colombia, Iran, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Nepal have registered here.

How is the prize money of the winners?

In this tournament, the players will be given an opportunity to improve their ratings and achieve GM and IM norms. This tournament will be held in two categories namely Masters and Challengers. In this, Rs.23 lakhs will be awarded in Masters category, Rs.12 lakhs in trophy, Challengers category and trophy will be given to the winners. According to officials of the organizing committee, six grandmasters, 17 international masters, two women grandmasters, eight women international masters, five FIDE masters and 200 ILO rated athletes are going to participate in this tournament.
