Cricket: Tragedy has happened in cricket. Pakistan’s former ICC panel umpire Asad Rauf has passed away. He is 66 years old. He died of a heart attack in Lahore. Asad Rauf served as an ICC Elite Panel Umpire from 2006 to 2013. Rauf first started umpiring for ODIs in 2000 and Test matches from 2005. He has umpired a total of 64 Tests, 139 ODIs, 28 T20s and 11 Women’s T20 matches in his career. In addition to this, he has umpired in many matches including the T20 league in India. After Aleem Dar from Pakistan, Asad Rauf, who became famous as a successful umpire, also worked as an umpire for the much crazed IPL matches in India. Asad Rauf faced allegations of spot-fixing during the 2013 IPL season. Asad Rauf was accused of fixing. Asad Rauf received expensive gifts from the bookies and was accused of fixing. BCCI sided him and ordered an investigation. BCCI banned him for five years in 2016 after he was found guilty after a long trial. Apart from being an effective umpire, Asad Rauf played as a famous first class cricketer in Pakistan. Rauf scored three centuries and 26 off centuries in 71 first class and 40 list A matches. During his career he played cricket for Lahore, National Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Railways and University of Pakistan.

Asad Rauf did not want to re-enter as an umpire even after the ban was over. Asad Rauf, who left umpiring due to the shock given by BCCI, running a clothes shop in Lahore became viral on social media at that time. Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ramiz Raja condoled the death of former Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf on Twitter. The news of Rauf’s death was said on Twitter. He was hailed as a good umpire and a person with sense of humour. He said that a smile shines on his face when he sees Asad Rauf. In his condolence message, he expressed his deepest condolences to the family. Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal also expressed grief over Rauf’s death. Many cricketers also mourned the death of Asad Rauf.
