In his retirement announcement, Oothappa said that he feels honored to represent the country and Karnataka and is grateful to all those who have supported him in his cricketing journey of two decades. On this very day in the 2007 World Cup, Oothappa played a brilliant innings against Pakistan. He scored 50 runs in 39 balls and played a key role in the victory of Team India. He bid farewell to cricket on this very day.

As far as his career is concerned, Uthappa made his international cricket debut in 2006 in the one-day series against England in Indore. Uthappa, who came as an opener in that match, scored 86 runs off 96 balls and was dismissed. At that time, this was the biggest innings in a debut match for India in ODIs. With Uthappa’s brilliant innings, India won the match against England by 7 wickets. In his overall career, Oothappa played 46 ODIs for India and scored 934 runs. When Kolkata Knight Riders won the title in 2014, Uthappa won the Orange Cap for the most runs (660) that season. He was also selected as the player of the tournament.
