Influenza Cases on the Rise: The increasing number of influenza cases in children is alarming. In the union territory of Puducherry, schools were closed after a large number of children contracted influenza. A holiday has been announced till 25th of this month. A large number of children are suffering from cold, cough and fever in Puducherry recently. Children account for 50 percent of influenza cases reported in hospitals. In this context, Chief Minister N Rangaswamy and Education Minister A Namashivayam took a key decision.
Classes have been canceled and holidays have been declared for the students of classes 1-8 till 25th of this month. Puducherry Directorate of School Education issued a notification in this regard on Saturday. These holidays are also applicable for LKG and UKG students. To prevent the spread of influenza, children are advised to stay at home, wear face masks, practice social distancing, and wash hands regularly with soap. Puducherry Health Department has also started special fever clinics in government clinics and PHCs in the territory. They want to ensure that there are doctors in all fever clinics and PHCs.
After the decline in the number of Covid-19 cases, people are flocking to markets and public places without masks. This has led to the spread of flu-like fever. Officials have advised fever-infected patients to wear face masks and maintain distance from other family members to prevent spread.
