In 2017, the Indian government has decided to posthumously award the Shaurya Chakra to Veera Jawa who sacrificed his life while saving the country in Kashmir. But this Shauryachakra was sent to the martyr’s parents by courier. The parents expressed their dissatisfaction and sent it back to the government. They demanded the government to decorate it on the hands of the President. The incident took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Martyr’s father Mukeem Singh Bhadauria refused to accept the Shaurya Chakra given to his son after his death. Mukeem Singh Bhadauria’s son Gopal Singh died in line of duty in Kashmir in 2017. Gopal Singh’s wife Hemavati filed a case in court claiming all his benefits and rewards. In this court battle, the parents won. The court ordered that the parents of the martyr should be given all kinds of benefits along with the Shaurya award. As a result, the center sent Shaurya Chakra to Mukeem Singh Badauria’s residence in Bapunagar through a courier. However, Gopal’s divorced wife Hemavati lives separately. The central government did not award the Shaurya Chakra award due to differences between the wife and parents. Finally it was sent by courier to Shauryachakra. Lance Naik Shaheed Gopal Bahadur.. He was also awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for his distinguished role during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
