The Central Election Commission has taken a crucial decision. The registration of 253 political parties found to be inactive in the country has been cancelled. These include Akhand Bharat National Party, Akhilandhra Mahadesam, Alindia Mukti Dal Party, Alindia Muttahida Khwami Mahaj, Andhra Pradesh Navodaya Praja Party, Bharat Abhyudaya Party, Mana Party, Nationalistic Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Praja Bharat Party, Praja Party and Suraj Party. Apart from that, there is Praja Shanti Party which is chaired by KA Paul. 253 inactive political parties were found in the states of Delhi, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh. This decision was taken after the Central Election Commission did not respond to the letters written by the Chief Electoral Officer. Political parties that did not contest in 2014 and 2019 elections were also identified as inactive parties. It is remarkable that these parties did not contest elections even after applying for a common symbol. The Election Commission has taken this decision that they are not implementing the provisions of the election laws.

Meanwhile, the Central Election Commission has decided to remove 111 political parties from their register which were found to be inactive in the past. It has been found that these political parties are not under verification with the aim of cleansing the system. Earlier they eliminated 87 such defunct political parties. On the other hand, the Central Election Commission had previously asked the Union Law Ministry to give them the authority to cancel the registration of political parties. It said that when the power to register is given to the Election Commission, the power to cancel should also be given.

Some are registering parties to get exemption from income tax. But did not contest the election. At present there are 8 national parties and more than 50 regional parties in the country. A postal address is mandatory for any organization registered as a political party. If there are any changes in it, it must be informed to the Election Commission. But we found that many political parties are not following these policies. With this, we have announced that the registrations of the parties are cancelled.
