Ashok said that last week due to heavy rain in Bengaluru, there were severe floods and people faced severe problems due to heavy water stagnation. He said that the government will start a demolition drive like the Noida Twin Towers to remove the illegal construction. He said that roads, houses and offices were inundated in Bengaluru due to floods and the damage was severe due to lack of regular construction and infrastructure in the city. However, the minister said in the assembly meetings on September 13 that illegal constructions in the city will be demolished just like the demolition of the twin towers in Noida.
Two apartment towers illegally constructed by real estate firm Supertech in Noida, Uttar Pradesh were demolished on August 28 as per the orders of the Supreme Court. The minister said that the builders should be held responsible for the buildings constructed against the rules and the government would take action against them.
There are more than 690 encroachments in the city, three buildings at the AECS layout have already been demolished and encroachments on the sewage canal have been removed, said Lokesh, chief engineer of Brihat Bangalore Mahanagara Palik. Lokesh revealed that the demolition program is going on in Challaghatta, Mahadevpura and Yalahanka.
